We’re on a Mission

We’re on a mission to keep history alive. Since 2016, Friends of Honey Hill has been dedicated to preserving the Lowcountry of South Carolina’s most remarkable Civil War battlefields.

But we’re not just about protecting the land—we’re here to bring the past to life with experiences that help visitors truly understand this pivotal moment in American history.

Preserving Our History

The Battle of Honey Hill was a critical step in the campaign to capture Charleston. Today, the battlefield stands as more than a preserved site—it’s a place where you can:

  • Walk in the footsteps of soldiers who shaped history.
  • Explore original rifle pits, trenches, and unspoiled roads.
  • Discover untold stories of bravery and sacrifice.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of the Civil War’s complexities.

Step Into History

Honey Hill Battlefield offers a rare and authentic glimpse into 1864. Unlike other commercialized sites, it remains remarkably untouched, giving you a chance to experience history in its purest form. From original Confederate defenses to the very ground where soldiers earned four Medals of Honor in a single afternoon, it’s a living connection to the past.

Our Commitment to Preservation and Education

Working in partnership with the Town of Ridgeland and the South Carolina Battleground Preservation Trust, we:

  • Manage and protect 75 acres of preserved battlefield, with future expansion to 130 acres.
  • Maintain authentic Civil War features, including the antebellum rice dike and Colonial-era roadway.

  • Provide detailed interpretive panels and maps that guide visitors through the battle sequence.

  • Create immersive educational experiences that bring the past to life.
